While I was one of the lucky ones to be safe and also not have my studio building completely destroyed, I and my family are still looking at significant ramifications from this storm. Both of my income sources have been at minimum temporary cut off for several weeks to months. While i am hopeful that our building will be deemed safe and habitable again, my studio/gallery and selling space Clayspace co-op will be closed for an indefinite period due to lack of power and water and cleanup efforts in the river arts district during what would normally be our busiest time of the year. We rely on tourism to make connections and sell our work and it will be a long time before Asheville is able to welcome back visitors in the way we used to.
I have been working as a professional ceramic artist in the River Arts District of Asheville, NC since 2010. My work is inspired by industrial objects and architecture both old and futuristic. I create contemporary industrially inspired ceramics that range from both functional to sculptural.
