While I am incredibly lucky to be one of the few artists in the RAD whose studio was not destroyed in the flood, I am unable to access my studio for an indeterminate amount of time until the building is deemed safe to enter, which means I am losing the ability to acquire in person sales of my art during what is normally our biggest season. I am also unable to work as a massage therapist for several weeks until water returns and the brewery my husband works at was severely damaged, and so our family will be without income for at least several weeks to come. Thankfully, I was able to safely recover almost all of my artwork from my studio before I lost access, and am eagerly seeking new means for selling my work while the rest of our income sources are inaccessible. I have fully stocked my online prints, with my original paintings soon to be posted as well. Any online purchasing of artwork would be an enormous help to my family!!
Amy Massey is a visual artist and massage therapist living in Asheville, NC. She grew up in Pittsburgh, PA and received a BFA from Columbus College of Art & Design. Initially, her studies were focused on photography and its ability to intimately capture the essence of a place or person. As she honed her creative vision, she began yearning for a means to capture less material aspects of the human experience and painting became the perfect outlet for that exploration. Amy’s latest bodies of work, Portals and Passages and On Shifting consist of delicate, ethereal vignettes painted in watercolor & gouache on watercolor paper. This work illustrates the push and pull of emotion, intentionally using negative space to suspend fluid forms while seeking both tension and harmony in the intricate, lively relationships of line, shape and color. The resulting images are meditations on the intangible aspects of being: a flowing exploration of the complexities of growth, grief and motherhood, and the ways we must turn inward in order to nurture & expand the softest parts of ourselves.
